Forgotten Photographers

I keep a folder called Forgotten Photographers. The title is not entirely accurate because many of the photographers were not recognized when they were living- so how could they be forgotten?  Some of these women and men lived and shot in obscurity (Vivian Maier), while others created a body of work that received minor attention while on earth and then became canonized upon their death. I believe the latter will be true for NY street photographer Arlene Gottfried (right) who died on August 8, 2017 at the age of 66. Although far from a household name, at the time of her death, Arlene was represented by Daniel Cooney Fine Art. Her photographs can be found in the collections at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, The New York Public Library, and in Paris.
