This photo was for a magazine article called What Women Want Now. The article
is about the strides woman have made in the workforce in the last 40 years. My image was praised for its
concept, colour palette and detailing but criticized for its execution. Meaning the lightening was weak, which I agree
with. It may also have been a stronger image had I cropped out the legs out and focused the
kiss. Also a valid point. The “winning” image (although there is no competition) was a tube of lipstick placed on the
top floor of a building made of black lipstick containers against a black backdrop. Brilliant concept. Brilliant
execution.
Next assignment: shoot an image for the article Against Meat — a beautiful article by Jonathan Safran Foer.
His argument in favour of vegetarianism begins with a nod to his grandmother. "[She] survived World War II
barefoot, scavenging Eastern Europe for other people's inedibles: rotting potatoes, discarded scraps of meat, skins
and the bits that clung to the bones and pits. She never cared if I colored outside the lines, as long as I cut coupons
along the dash."
